Genesis GV90 Electric SUV

Hyundai Motor Group luxury brand Genesis has unveiled its brand-new flagship electric vehicle (EV) model, the GV90. The new model represents a significant new step in the evolution of the brand, joining the premium electric SUV market. The GV90 is based on-neolun production concept, where the luxury design ethos that the Genesis has been known for is applied to a large scale SUV package.

In the following article, Genesis GV90’s design, interior, features, battery life, range, performance, safety, why to buy and launch date in India is discussed in detail.

Design: A Luxury SUV That Looks Nothing Like a Typical EV

The GV90 is given a clean yet imposing design by Genesis. It is quite recognizable as a Genesis with its big size, 2-line lighting signature and an upright luxury-SUV style. As a first-generation full-size flagship SUV, the GV90 symbolizes the brand’s design and engineering prowess.

The real design show-stopper, however, is the GV90 Neolun. It is particularly wide for passengers thanks to its Neolun Arch Gate with a hidden B-pillar and coach style doors. Genesis adds the reinforcing elements to ensure rigidity and safety even though the building looks as if it has no pillars.

Interior: More Like a Luxury Lounge Than a Car Cabin

A flat floor has been used on the GV90, along with a 127.8-inch wheelbase, creating more cabin space for the driver and passengers. The Neolun version includes motorized front seats that face each other when a vehicle is parked, providing it with the possibility of developing a face-to-face lounge configuration.

The Executive Suite offering comprises four seats, and is reported to be further enhanced with a refrigerator, privacy blinds, a movable glass roof and heated real-wood flooring similar to Korea’s ondol heating tradition. The seats are massaged and the high-resolution audio further heightens the “chauffeur service” aspect of it.

The new system uses an AI-focused software and the 23.6-inch OLED display.

The dashboard houses a 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display while a 25-inch head-up display, features  important information right in the driver’s line of sight. The SUV is also injected with the next generation Pleos Connect infotainment system of Genesis.

AI-powered software and connectivity are also being prominently featured by Genesis as key components of the GV90 experience, thereby adding to the software-dominated feel of the new flagship. The model comes with conventional and electric powertrain options, and is available internationally. The GV70 and Electrified GV70 are currently sold worldwide by Genesis.

Genesis GV90 Battery, Range and Charging

The GV90 is packed with the largest power supply of the Hyundai Motor Group, a 123.5 kWh high voltage battery. Based on internal R&D testing, Genesis estimates the distance of some 310 miles (about 500 km) for the seven-seat Ghia Vignale (GV90). Genesis states that its 350 kW DC fast charger can fully charge the battery in about 10-80 percent in 22 minutes. The charging time will vary based on the capacitor power, battery temperature and other factors.

Genesis GV90 Performance: 657 HP From Dual Electric Motors

According to Genesis, the Genesis GV90 eSUV is the most powerful EV in Hyundai Motor Group’s lineup, due to its all-wheel-drive system that delivers 657 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. It features a front motor capable of 240 kW and a rear motor with a 250 kW power output, which helps to provide strong and responsive power.

A Dual Electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) optimizes the use of motor power based on the conditions, which enhances traction, stability and control on any surface. The GV90’s electric power system allows it to cruise along quickly or accelerate slowly and smoothly going through the city or out in the countryside.

Genesis GV90 Safety: Fitted With 12 Airbags And A Roof Airbag.

According to Genesis, the GV90 features a 12 airbag system with what is claimed as the world’s first Roof Airbag, meant to provide extra protection for the occupants when the vehicle tips over. The unusual hidden B-pillar also required extensive structural engineering. Genesis says the vehicle uses reinforced structural components to maintain body rigidity while enabling the Neolun’s coach-door design.

Autovenger’s Take:

The Genesis GV90 is not to be overlooked by those seeking a high-end EV filled with cutting-edge technology and a luxuriously comfortable interior. Competition with the Ford Mustang is fierce, as is the scorn of numerous owners who dislike being stuck with a fuel-powered car.But its 657 hp twin-motor powertrain, big battery, quick charging and roomy cabin make it appealing to electric SUV buyers who don’t want to be confined to a fuel-powered vehicle. This model, GV90 Neolun in particular, is highly attractive to customers who prefer the luxury of a chauffeur, as well as comfort and a rear cabin that offers something akin to sitting in a lounge.
