The Next-Generation Hyundai i20 is also set for a significant transformation, with the details revealed in a number of leaks that this will be the biggest facelift the more premium hatch has received in years.

The all-new exterior is likely to have a futuristic front fascia design that boasts a full-width LED light bar, Y-shaped DRL headlamps, and a widened grille. In the back it’ll be seen as a wider, sportier stance with attached LED tail lamps and a more sculpted bumper, while the front of the hatchback will retain the similar look.

As you can see from a few of the other images, Hyundai is also hitting it with a more angular framework, a more angular bonnet, and a larger alloy wheel, all of which make the new i20 look even more premium and more SUV-ish than it already does.

On the interior, Hyundai seems to be doing an extra-large job of technology and comfort. The leaked images show that the hatchback would also have a massive single integrated digital instrument cluster and infotainment system screen, which can be curved.

Newer materials and ergonomics are assumed throughout the cabin, and the dashboard itself looks cleaner and more polished. The rest of the infotainment might make their ownership even better, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connector technology, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and an improved sound system.

So it’s likely that the list will be expanded considerably as Hyundai looks to keep one step ahead. The new i20 would feature a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and a range of Level-2 advanced driver-assistance technologies, according to reports. Rarely used in this segment are driver-assistance technologies designed to assist the driver in maintaining the vehicle within their lane, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control.

In terms of powertrain, Hyundai is likely to retain its previous engine, which was used in the last generation of the Hyundai i20. The standard variants will be based on the tried-and-tested 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers around 83 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque, mated with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission gearbox.

Performance-oriented variants of N Line will stick with the 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine rated at around 120 hp and 172 Nm of torque but with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Mild-hybrid technology will also be introduced to some international markets to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

A key priority will be safety at Hyundai as well. The i20 may have 6 airbags standard throughout the model range but will also include electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. Adding up advanced driver assistance systems would make the hatchback even safer, making it even more similar to compact SUVs when it comes to safety technology and driver assistant features.

With all the upgrades it has, it is hardly surprising that a somewhat higher price is in prospect when the car makes its debut in India. The base trim is expected to be priced from ₹8 lakh to ₹9 lakh (ex-showroom), and the higher trim is expected to be priced between ₹12 lakh and ₹14 lakh. If the new Hyundai i20 launched with this feature, it would heat up the market and compete against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza, and Citroen C3.

At last, we would like to state that the information that has been leaked leaves little doubt that Hyundai is making serious changes and not just a facelift. The next-generation Hyundai i20 may set a new benchmark for its premium hatch peers when it goes on sale, given its futuristic design, high-tech interior, safety technology, and engine options.
