On July 9, 2026, Nissan will officially launch its new global midsize SUV, the Nissan Tekton, with a fresh teaser image confirming that it is back. The company is referring to it as the “Baby Patrol”, which seems a big nod towards the Nissan Patrol. The Tekton, which will be Nissan’s entry in the competitive midsize SUV segment, will be competing with practically several winners such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Renault Duster.

The new Nissan Tekton tease shows a rugged and muscular design of the SUV, which is similar in style to the iconic Nissan Patrol. The SUV interestingly has a tall bonnet line, a strong emphasis in its wheel arches, sculptured body panels, and a vibrant front fascia with unique LED lighting signatures. Along with that, Nissan is also hinting at a commanding road presence thanks to the high bonnet line found here, as well as its boxy proportions, which further reinforces its “Baby Patrol” identity. The teaser doesn’t share much but makes it known that the design of the Tekton will be more rugged and adventure-oriented to compete with the midsize SUV class for those looking for a more rugged vehicle.

Powertrain Options Inspired by the Renault Duster
Built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modern CMF-B platform, the Nissan Tekton is expected to arrive with a range of turbo-petrol powertrain options. The entry-level versions may be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with around 120 hp and coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The higher variants will arguably get a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that will produce around 154 hp and 250 Nm of peak torque in both 6-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions. This wide range of engine options should offer a balance of performance, fuel efficiency and comfortability for a variety of engine types.
Nissan is also likely to unveil a 1.6-litre strong hybrid engine that will feature a petrol engine paired with an electric motor, giving a power of around 140 hp and better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. As for front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive prospects, the Tekton could deliver both, helping it maintain bad-weather traction on streets as well as off-road when needed.
Advanced Safety and Protection Systems
On the safety front, Nissan Tekton is expected to borrow several features from the new Renault Duster. Available safety features include up to 6 airbags, ABS/electronic brake force distribution, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist plus Hill Descent Control and Traction Control and TPMS and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.
Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and emergency braking assistance are some of the extras that may come standard on higher packages. Surrounded by those features and the reinforced body structure of the CMF-B platform, the Tekton could be one of the safer choices in the midsize SUV segment.
Technology and Features Explained
In terms of tech & features, Nissan Tekton will feature a large touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, connecting car systems, and a premium audio system. The cabin sports attributes such as higher variants with a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat and a 360-degree camera and is a feature-rich, premium cabin experience.
The entry-level versions powered by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motors will likely fetch prices that are in the range of ₹10 lakh, while the higher-spec versions with 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and hybrid engines will probably be in the ₹18 lakh bracket. The Tekton could become a value for money if Nissan takes on an aggressive approach with pricing.
