During the month of June 2026, Maruti Suzuki got a healthy year-on-year (YoY) performance in the Indian passenger vehicle market, with almost all segments of private vehicles adapting to favourable numbers. June 2026 saw an impressive 23.8% rise in the company’s domestic passenger vehicle sales, which totalled 147,187 units, as compared with June 2025, which reached 118,906. The trend has been sustained in the first quarter of FY2026-27 (April-June) too, as passenger vehicle sales have risen to 525,228 units against 393,572 units during the same period last year.
The biggest contributor to this growth continues to be Maruti Suzuki’s Utility Vehicle (UV) portfolio. In June 2026, models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Invicto, Jimny, XL6, e-Vitara, and Vitara registered sales of 61,726, a year-on-year increase from 47,947 units produced. Aided by a more than 35% jump in sales, UV sold 218,885 units in the April through June quarter, up from 161,868 units during the same period last year. This reflects an upsurge in Indian buyers’ preference for SUVs and MPVs.
Solid gains were also observed in sales of Maruti Suzuki’s compact and mid-size passenger car segments. The lineup of Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis and Ciaz sold 63,815 units in June 2026, as compared to 55,205 in June 2025. For the April-June period, sales reached 226,029 units, compared to 179,077 units in FY2025-26, reaffirming the continued popularity of hatchbacks and compact sedans despite the growing SUV trend.
Remarkable improvements were also noted across the company’s entire mini-car projects, which comprise the Alto and the S-Presso. Sales increased from 6,414 units in June 2025 to 11,416 units in June 2026, marking a growth of nearly 78%. Quarterly sales also almost doubled from 19,522 in the previous quarter to 43,757, mirroring the trend for new variants looking to get onto the road at low prices.
In parallel with these figures, the Van segment upheld its play, with the Eeco remaining in its right-half mark. The model holds the record for 10,230 units as compared with 9,340 units last year. The sales for Eeco during the quarters April-May and June seem to have increased to 36,557 units as compared with 33,105 units during the respective quarters of FY2025-26.
Overall, the passenger vehicle lineup of Maruti Suzuki has kicked off FY2026-27 on a positive note with positive growth across all major categories of pockets. Despite being the biggest volume contributor, compact cars have proved to be a significant winner of increased demand for utility vehicles, reflecting the customer buying patterns in India. Both SUVs and hatchbacks performed admirably, and the automaker has consolidated its position as the top manufacturer in the nation’s passenger auto market.
